HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE

I love answering questions about making money online, but there are those questions that are a little harder to answer than others. One of those questions being, “How long does it take to make money online”.

Well, this is a tough question to answer for many reasons. First off, what kind of business are you going to be doing? Will be you placing trades in the stock market from your computer? If so, then you could essentially make money on day one. If you plan on creating an online apparel company, then your timeline for making money is going to be much longer.

No matter what kind of business that you have, you need to think long term. When making money online the people who succeed are the ones who put in the time and effort for a year or more. Yes, there are companies and individuals out there that make a good amount of money in less than a year, but that is not typical.

What I want to talk to you about today is how long it takes to make money online. I have been running online businesses for almost a decade, so I do have quite a bit of experience doing many things. One of my biggest mistakes that I did make though was not putting in the time in the beginning.

What you will quickly realize is that money doesn’t come in on day one (in most cases), so you need to be prepared to stick it out until the money does start to come in. I remember when I created my first website, I was checking my earnings reports every hour to see if I made any money. Horrible mistake! Now, I check my earnings reports 2 times per month just to see if there is anything that I can learn from those reports and if there is a way I can improve my business.

Ok, so lets dive into some online businesses that you can run and roughly how long they take to start making money.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE – BUSINESS IDEAS

Amazon FBA

Selling items on Amazon is one of my favorite ways to make money online, but it is not always quick. I sell all my inventory through Amazon’s fulfillment channel (FBA). Being that I use Amazon’s fulfillment method I have to send my inventory to their warehouses, which takes about a week for delivery. It is because of this that it can take up to 1 week for your inventory to show up on Amazon’s website, then another few days for the items to sell, and then Amazon sends out your payments every 2 weeks. It is because of this that you will wait about 2 weeks to see any money from the inventory that you sent off to Amazon.

Now, Amazon also has another fulfillment method, it is called fulfilled by merchant. What this means is that it operates just like eBay does. When somebody buys the item that you have for sale you will print out the shipping label and send it off to them. By doing this you will cut out the time that it takes to send your inventory to Amazon, however, you will be charged shipping, which in some cases will increase your costs.

EBAY

To be honest, I made money on my very first day with eBay. I simply listed an old phone that I had and within 3 hours it sold. So, if you want to make money quickly, then selling inventory on eBay is a great way to go about doing this. One piece of advice that I have for anybody that sells on eBay is to stick to categories like clothing, not electronics. I say this because people who sell electronics seem to have more issues with scammers than anybody else in the other categories.

STOCK TRADING

If you want to make money with stocks then you will need to do a lot of learning beforehand. Most people that attempt stock trading simply watch tv, see what the other traders are saying, and then buy. This is a terrible idea. Don’t trade stocks based on what another trader is telling you. What you don’t know is what their strategy is, how much money they have to invest, and what their other trades are doing. By knowing all of this stuff it will give you an idea of where the market is going. So, with that said stock trading is not a fast way to make money in the beginning. Once you have been doing this successfully for 6 months or longer then you can quickly make money, but to start it will take some time.

BLOGGING

Probably the hardest way to make money, but one that will be extremely passive later on. Blogging has been around for quite some time and many people make well over six figures doing this. Did they start with a million viewers on their blog, no, everybody starts with nothing and then grows it to what they are now. If you want to start a blog to make a living from, then you will need to be very consistent and don’t give up. The reason so many people fail with blogging is because they don’t see the quick success that they were hoping for. This is how blogging works, nobody sees fast success, so that is why it is so important to stick with it. In most cases bloggers are not seeing any significant income until at least 1 year in. If you can’t wait 1 year for a decent income, then maybe blogging is not for you.

YOUTUBE / VLOGGING

This is one of those ways to make money that is very hard to say how long it will take. Some people see success on the very first video that they publish. For others, it takes years of quality content in order to see growth. Whatever it is that you plan on recording is very important. The more entertaining it is, the more subscribers you will gain, which means the more views you will get, which means the more money you can potentially make. So, just know that Vlogging is a great business, but for most people this will take at least 2 years before you are consistently making $1,000 per month.

KINDLE PUBLISHING

Kindle publishing is another great way to make a passive income, but not everybody has the same success. As with anything, the more work that you put into Kindle doesn’t mean the more success you will have. With Kindle publishing you need to focus on keywords, topics, covers, and content. If you can get all of that right, then you will see some success. One thing you should know about Kindle publishing is that you can make money from day 1, but Amazon pays a month behind. So if it is December now and you make $100, then Amazon will wait until the end of January. Another thing that is important to know is that some people find more success selling on Kindles other platforms, ACX and Createspace. These two are audio books and printed books, unlike Kindle which is all ebooks.

These are just some of the businesses that I have created over the years, so I know roughly how long it takes and what goes into making these profitable. What you need to understand is just because I say it takes 1 day or 2 months doesn’t mean that is a set time, everybody has different results, so hopefully you start making money on the first day of every business you start.
